According to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions (2009), ragging constitutes any of the following acts:
Any act causing bodily harm, assault, battery, forced physical labor, involuntary confinement, sleep deprivation, or forcing a student to perform awkward or humiliating physical tasks.
Teasing, name-calling, derogatory remarks regarding regionalism, language, religion, caste, race, appearance, or using foul language that causes shame, annoyance, or psychological trauma.
Inducing fear, intimidation, distress, apprehension, or forcing junior students into subservient roles such as completing academic assignments, washing clothes, or running personal errands.
Forcing a fresher or junior student to pay for treats, snacks, transport, mobile recharges, or demanding unauthorized monetary contributions under coercion.
Circulating embarrassing memes, trolling, recording unconsented videos, bullying via WhatsApp groups, Instagram, or social media handles targeting any student's dignity.
Preventing freshers from moving freely in hostels, locking hostel room doors from outside, restricting dining hall access, or imposing forced dress codes and room visitations.
Constituted as per mandatory PCI & UGC statutes to oversee institutional vigilance, evaluate grievances, conduct inquiries, and enforce strict discipline across all pharmacy departments.
