Anti-Ragging Committee

Overview:

The Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) is a specialized body formed within educational institutions to eradicate the menace of ragging. Ragging refers to any form of verbal, physical, or psychological abuse or harassment inflicted upon new students by their seniors. It can range from seemingly harmless pranks to severe forms of bullying that may have lasting detrimental effects on the victims. The ARC is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students by implementing strict measures to prevent and address incidents of ragging.

Objectives:

  1. The primary objective of the Anti-Ragging Committee is to prevent instances of ragging from occurring within the educational institution.
  2. The ARC ensures that the institution’s anti-ragging regulations and policies are strictly enforced.
  3. In the unfortunate event that ragging does occur, the ARC provides immediate support and assistance to the victims.
  4. The committee organizes awareness programs, workshops, and seminars to educate students about the harmful effects of ragging and the importance of maintaining a respectful and supportive environment for all.
  5. The ARC establishes confidential reporting mechanisms through which students can report incidents of ragging without fear of retaliation.
  6. The committee collaborates with law enforcement agencies, educational authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate efforts in combating ragging.
  7. The ARC conducts regular monitoring and evaluation of its anti-ragging initiatives to assess their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Punishments against ragging

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-ragging Committee of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall be any one or any combination of the following:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
  • Withholding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits
  • Forfeiting campus placement opportunities / recommendations
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process
  • Withholding of results
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international  meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Rustication from the institution for a period, ranging from 1 to 4 semesters
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specific period
  • Fine to be paid
  • Collective punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure community pressure on the potential raggers.

As per the order of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and in line with the policy of GMIPSR to ensure a completely ragging-free environment within the GMIPSR campus, and in compliance with directives from the UGC from time to time, the Anti-Ragging Committee and Ragging Squad are hereby constituted with the following members for the academic year 2024-25
